LOU AT SUEMI STUDIOS |
Lou Pride is one of the
best people I have ever dealt with over the many years I have been
involved in the music business. He showed up to our studios wanting to put
out a record of his band "The Funky Bunch" and I was glad to
have a different type band play in the studio. They had horns and I
had never dealt with horns before. After his first successful single"
There's Got to be Someone For Me" we put out three more singles in
our upper valley studio in El Paso and moved on to Memphis where we put
out several more fine tunes using "The Hi Rhythm Section" and
"The Memphis Horns". Lou was and still is one of those
people that never complains and is always in a positive mood.
Recently I was lucky enough to to see him perform at "The Portland
Blues Festival" and I was blown away by his stage presence and artful
voice. The audience loved him and he loved them. He is based
out of Chicago these days and is recording with Severn Records. The
CD 103-Lou Pride will be released later in 2002 as a Severn release .
A side note here: "I'm Comin Home in the Morning" was a really good release we put out in El Paso. Unknown to us, it was bootlegged in the UK and became a hit. For you record buffs out there, the original single is worth a lot of money in the UK. Even the bootleg has value but the original is really hard to find. I believe we pressed 500 in El Paso and most of them were sold there. In all fairness, you can sample a few tunes of Lou's here but it wouldn't be right to sell this CD and honor the Severn release at the same time so I hope these samples will give you a taste of a really good R and B master songsmith Lou Pride and if you like what you hear go to Severn Records to purchase it. After all these years it is has been great renewing the friendship Sparky, Lou and I have had. We stay in touch and hope to do so forever. As I was mastering this compilation of Lou's, I realizes just how good Lou Pride is and I hope you will hear this as well. Kenny Smith |
